Public Record Requests
Under Ala. Code § 36-12-40, Alabama citizens may inspect and take a copy of any public record maintained by the Alabama Department of Public Health, unless the record is exempt from public disclosure.
Before making a request, first see if the information is already available on the Department's website at www.alabamapublichealth.gov. If it is not publicly available, you may submit a request for those records through this portal.
A public records request is not required for copies of vital records like birth or death certificates. Copies of medical records from visits to the county health department may be obtained directly from the local health department. See our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for more information.
